Sonic Blades, an amazing new audio speaker concept designed and produced by Australian company Liquid Base won a 'Best of Innovations' award at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show. Liquid Base’s SonicBlades certainly look stunning, because they use a tinted glass ‘blade’ fixed to a tetrahedron base rather than a conventional speaker cabinet. However, the speakers won the award because at the heart of the design is an advance in electrostatic loudspeaker technology that allows for the cost-effective manufacture of very thin, very light diaphragms. Known as a ‘Sonic Panels’ these diaphragms were developed in Australia.
